Perth's Sunset

Mettam’s Pool aerial Video at Sunset

Complete Aerial Coverage for North Beach Projects

There’s a certain kind of magic that happens in Perth as the sun goes down — when light softens, colours stretch across the river, and the city reflects itself back in perfect stillness. In this FPV drone video, we follow that light, gliding over water and skyline in a single, flowing motion.

Shot during golden hour using first-person-view drone technology, this piece captures more than just a location — it captures mood, atmosphere, and movement. At The Flying Emu, we use drones not just to film from above, but to invite the viewer into the scene — building emotional connection through speed, rhythm, and perspective.

Heirisson Island

Hidden gem within Perth’s urban core. Located on the Swan River between East Perth and Victoria Park, the island is split by the Causeway and surrounded by water on all sides. It’s home to birdlife, native bushland, and walking trails — and on a calm evening, it becomes one of the best places in the city to watch the sunset.

From a drone’s perspective, it’s an incredible launch point. The open airspace and reflective water offer cinematic conditions, while the backdrop of the Crown complex, Optus Stadium, and Perth’s skyline provide urban depth and structure. Whether you’re filming real estate, tourism assets, or creative content, this part of the river delivers an unbeatable visual contrast: wild calm in the foreground, modern city in the distance.

Sunset Glide Across Water and Glass

This FPV drone sequence was designed to be simple, clean, and immersive. We launched from a discreet point on Heirisson Island, aiming to stay close to the ground at first to maximise the reflections off the water. FPV drones allow this kind of controlled proximity flying — just centimetres from the surface — without the wobble or drift typical of GPS-based drones.

As the drone moved toward the Crown, the timing lined up perfectly. The sun hit the building’s western face, lighting the glass façade in a brilliant orange wash. We used this moment to rise and slow the motion, building tension and perspective. Then, in a wide left pan, we pulled the drone across the river’s edge to bring the city into frame — framed by soft clouds and golden skies.

This type of shot is only possible with first-person-view (FPV) gear, which allows the pilot to manually guide the drone through precise speed and altitude changes — resulting in visuals that feel natural, not robotic.

The Flying Emu’s FPV Drone Advantage

This video represents what we specialise in: visual storytelling through motion. At The Flying Emu, we use a fleet of lightweight, manually piloted FPV drones paired with stabilised camera systems to capture smooth, dynamic footage.

Unlike standard drones that hover and pan, FPV drones give you:

  • Fluid motion and real-time responsiveness

  • Agile low-level flying (perfect for reflections, ground proximity, or transitions)

  • Natural-looking movement for cinematic scenes

  • Custom trajectories through open or complex environments

All our FPV operations are CASA compliant and designed to balance safety with creativity. Whether we’re flying over water, between structures, or through natural landscapes, we take the time to plan every shot — while remaining flexible enough to adapt in the moment.
